“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an external glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
I’m here to remind you not to lose heart. I don’t know what the situation is in your life that is trying to rob your hope and wreak havoc, but don’t lose heart! Your momentary troubles and struggles are an opportunity to grow in Godly character. Each circumstance is a chance to fix your eyes on Christ and follow Him as He leads you through.
Sometimes the easier route is the one that doesn’t produce much harvest. The things we see are temporary, yet we are often tempted to use the temporary in order to get through the mess we find ourselves in. Drugs, sex, alcohol, a one night stand, food, the bar/club, social media, and the list goes on. We often use these temporary things to ease our minds from jumping off the cliff of hope. Only we don’t realize that when we choose the temporary to bring any ease, we might not jump off the cliff, but we are trying to parachute off it instead. The ride might seem a smoother process, but the hopelessness you’ll feel at the bottom is all the same.
The temporary will fade and so is your life. I’m not trying to be grim, but we are not invincible! Life comes and life goes, we are not meant for this world! We are meant for eternity with our Father. We have to keep our eyes fixed on Christ and what is not seen. It can be the most basic of things that we have the most trouble performing. A few of the basics of our faith is to seek God, go to Him in prayer, read His Word, and worship Him. We keep our eyes focused on things not seen by doing the basics and it’s when we perform the basics, that we often find ourselves not losing heart and getting through our trial.
Don’t lose heart! Don’t lose hope! The King of Kings is for you! Seek God in the quiet of the night and see His beauty in the nature all around you! Allow it to remind you of a beautiful eternity that we can and will have with Christ if we continue to fix our eyes on Him. Don’t chose the temporary routes to escape your troubles, but rather fix your eyes and grow through your troubles. You will be stronger for it in the end!
